Gate Theatre Notting Hill
A home for anarchic spirits, invigorating theatre, and restless creative ambition, the Gate has been inspiring audiences and artists alike for 35 years. Although a small theatre, they always think big. Their new brand and digital presence needed to step up to this attitude. More+
Stepping off the busy pavement in Notting Hill and up the stairs above a pub you enter another world. With no real foyer you are thrust into their ever transformable, 70 seat space. No two visits to the Gate are ever the same.
Being closed in the day and with no real ‘shop window’ to speak of the theatre rely heavily on their web presence to sell tickets, drive interest, increase financial supporters and gain new members.
The key to a great site was to get the visual components right first. We wanted the brand’s expression to reflect this idea of a ‘punk mentality’. A brand that felt as though it was always in a state of flux. A logo that changes its configuration, whilst images and backgrounds employ the visual characteristics of tactile print techniques.
These combinations are brought to life on the site in conjunction with the fantastic content that the theatre were waiting to share with the world. As the Gate confront and debate the biggest questions that face humanity, they do so with even greater confidence and brand presence.
"The Gate is our oxygen. It should be on the NHS." Bill Nighy
